Today I received this message on another forum:

CiteerHello folks,
I'm actually on YouTube looking at waterfowl videos and try to learn on birds that I won't probably see in nature. Anyway, I found a Barnacle Geese video where the cameraman tell it might be a melanistic Barnacle Geese. My idea is that it could be a Canada Geese or Brant Geese x Barnacle but I'm asking to get your idea on that subject.

Here's the link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tLmcl8NiNw

Thanks

Frank

What would you think about it? Hybrid or melanistic Barnacle goose?

mmm, VERY interesting bird it looks unlike the barnacle x canada hybrids that i have seen (which have a brownish back). My guess would be a very odd colour mutation of barnacle.

The bird has a conspicuous white patch in front of the eye and white edgings to the wing coverts. I think this could be a Barnacle x Red-breasted hybrid.
