Hello Julia,

Puccinia found on Crepis capillaris. Uredinia (on the leafs and stem) and telia (on the leafs) present.
Urediniospores: 18-23 x 21-27 µm Teliospores: 25-29 x 33-37µm

Is this Puccinia crepidicola?

Hello Julia,

I forgot to mention that the plants looked normal, in bloom, not deformed (not stuned).
Maybe this feature  excludes Puccinia crepidicola in favor of  Puccinia praecox the main rustfungi on Crepis.

Hello,

the rust fungi on Crepis are often host specific, but there are also some ubiquistic species, which occur on a lot of different Crepis hosts.

The Uredospores are too small for Puccinia praecox. I would determine your species as Puccinia crepidis. Could you say something regarding the wallthickness of the Uredospores?

Puccinia crepidis is the main rust occuring on Crepis capillaris. All other rusts are only rarely found on Crepis capillaris. And I think, that there is still a lot of research needed within this rust group.

Cheers,
Julia

Hello Julia,

The wallthicknes of the Urediospores was 1-2 µm.

Hey,

I still prefer Puccinia crepidis, even when the wall thickness could fit for both -.- Difficult, as I said. Normally the wall for crepidicola is 2 µm.

Cheers,
Julia
