Unfortunately legislation is about to be signed in Ireland (http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2012/0127/1224310809134.html) which could potentially block Observado and other websites in Ireland. The legislation is very poorly written and could result in websites being blocked if they contain any material that could have potentially been copyrighted. An example would be if someone objected to the E-Bird data being shown here.

Are there similar proposals in the Netherlands? Would there be problems for Waarneming.nl?

I don't understand all of the content in that text. But it would mean the end of internet if it is true what you describe. All websites in the world have content which potentially could have been copyrighted... Is potentially enough to ban it? That's ridiculous! Off course observado, youtube, or whatever website with users could have content which violates copyright. With a couple of thousand users this can not be excluded with certainty. However, if violation is noted, users are pointed at it and copyrighted material will most of the time removed quickly. If that's nog enough, then R.I.P. internet and R.I.P. international relationships!
