Hi,
Anyone any idea if there are any Golden Nightjars at Western Sahara/Dakhla/Oued Jenna region this year? There seems to be little going on with few larks and so on...
Any news, negative or positive is welcomed?
Thanks in advance,
Miguel
They seem to be absent. No sightings on Observation and on eBird the only sightings are along the Senegal-Mauritania border.
I've been there in January this year. No luck although they weren't my main target at the time. Most birders go in March anyway so I don't know what that means. Still, I met a couple of other birders there that looked for them for three days with no luck at Oued Jenna, they also didn't see Sudan Golden Sparrow by the way. Neither did we, but I see that they have been reported in February, so they might still be possible. Not easy though!
Breeding of Golden Nightjar at Aousserd confirmed this month (http://www.magornitho.org/2019/03/golden-nightjar-breeding-aousserd/) (18 March 2019)
