Hello,
i try to write in english, hope this is ok with you all.

For the microlepidoptera we would need a stadium "Exuvie" (german term) = "exuvia" (english term).

E. g. one can find the Exuvia of Cossus cossus.

This stadium is imho different from "Kokon", though it is debatable if it could be subsumized under this term.

Thank you.

if this stadium is only known for one species, why bother to add this ?

Hello Hisko, "excuviae" is used in many species groups. e.g. Butterflies. Moths, Dragonflies, Diptrea, Beetles and so om. In many cases the species can be identified by its excuvium. In Dragonflies whole books are dedicated to species recognition by excuviae...........!!!! So why not add it to the input possibilities?

The term is exuviae, it only exists as plural. Exuvium is incorrect.
For dragonflies this option does already exist and is being used.

The discussion is not if exuviae should be available for diptera, dragonflies etc
but for moths. Adding a new lifestage to a speciesgroup wich can only be used with one or two species will lead to misuse in all other moth species

Hello Hisko,

In my opinion you're a bit shortsighted in this matter. Excuviae can be used by much more then just one or two species of butterflies and moths!!! Any lifestage in any species group is an opportunity for misuse. If that's to be a criterium for implementation there are a great many subjects in waarneming.nl, waarneming.be and observation.org which need to be discussed........ ;-)

Best regards,

Jan

There are some micromoths and some macromoths which can be determined by the exuvia. You should not try to avoid errors by omitting viable data.
