Dear Bird Watcher:
The Big Sit!™ is almost here! Register your circle today for this entertaining bird-watching event.
Since its beginning, The Big Sit™ has always been held—around the world—on the second Sunday in October. Beginning in 2012, Big Sitters will have the option of choosing the second SATURDAY of October as their Big Sit date. This temporal flexibility should help Sitters avoid some scheduling conflicts, and perhaps even some crummy weather. When you register your Sit circle, please indicate whether you are sitting on Saturday, October 13 or Sunday, October 14, 2012.
What is the Big Sit? Some people call it a tailgate party for birders. The Big Sit! is an annual international birding event hosted by Bird Watcher's Digest and founded by the New Haven (CT) Bird Club. It's a non-competitive, stationary, one-day birding event that is serious fun. We hope bird watchers from around the globe will unite on this special day by participating in this event (it's free!). Every team that observes this year's
"Golden Bird" has a chance to win $500.
During your Sit, tweet your progress with the Twitter hashtag #bigsit. We'll be displaying results live on Bird Watcher's Digest.com! You can also
become a fan of Bird Watcher's Digest on Facebook and share your best birds there, too!
Don't delay! Participating teams must register prior to October 15, 2012, by visiting the
Bird Watcher's Digest website.
Find out how your bird club can use the Big Sit! as a fundraiser, and be sure to inform members of your organization by
downloading and distributing a flyer promoting the event. But hurry, because there are only a couple more weeks to collect pledges for each species you count!
Register for the Big Sit 2012
