EDIT:
If you have a question about a reptile or amphibian, please make a new forumtopic and ask your question.

This is an archive of an old forumtopic. Before we had a special subforum for all the amphibian and reptile questions (not from the Netherlands). This topic got crowded with questions. That's why we created the subboard, so everyone could post a question as a single forumtopic. But to keep the old questions archived, we placed this old topic here, so it can still be viewed by everyone. (wouter teunissen)

Geacht forum,

Op 21 mei j.l. zag ik in Maro (Spanje) de kikkers gemeld in bovenstaande waarneming.
Ik zou er graag de naam van weten. Is er iemand die mij kan helpen ?

LS,

Please can anybody help me out with this observation of Marcel Ruijs in Morocco?
The toad has yellow-green eyes (Natterjacktoad-like) but according to the IUCN-list he's not supposed to be in Morocco:
http://www.iucnredlist.org/apps/redlist/details/54598/0
But I found a website which says it does: http://www.wildsideholidays.com/natural/reptiles-and-amphibians/331-g-natterjack-toad-bufo-epidalia-calamita-sapo-corredor.html
Anybody a clue?

Thanks,
Bart

Hoi Koos,

Volgens deze beschrijving heeft de Spaanse Meerkikker een vlekkenpatroon op de achterpoten wat gebandeerd lijkt. Als ik naar jouw foto kijk lijkt dat inderdaad het geval.

On the 9th of july I photographed this snake in Frasers Hill, Malaysia.
Someone who can tell me which snake it is?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Falco,

Seems to me to be the Variable Reed Snake (Calamaria lumbricoidea):

Hi Henk, you're identification is correct -> non-aquatic phase of Ichthyosaura alpestris (male) because of orange throat and spinestripe. The Salamandra atra is totally black with exception of 1 ssp which has yellow dots on it's back.

Hi Hisko,

Looks complete to me except the "Algerijnse Toornslang" (eng: "Algerian Whip Snake", lat: "Hemorrhois algirus") is missing, an African specie which occurs on Malta and Lampedusa.

Hi Ies,

Because of that spinestripe it looks to me to be a frog I found a lot on the Peninsular of Malaysia and Thailand around human settlements on the countryside (even near the beach between the bungalows of Railay Beach near Krabi): (a young) Asian Grass Frogg (Fejervarya limnocharis. Synonym: Rana limnocharis, Gravenhorst, 1829 ). I never saw it arround Mount Kinabalu but according to the rangemap of the IUCN it occurs in the north of Borneo too: http://www.iucnredlist.org/apps/redlist/details/58275/0 Check this page too. Did you see it inside the park or in secondary/agricultural vegetation? (because it only occurs in disturbed habitats). I can't find it in the Observado Database, maybe you've got a scoop!

Hi Bart thanks for your answer. The picture was taken inside the national park in undisturbed forest. There were some pools on the Mempening trail and that's where I saw this type of frog a few times.

What do you mean with the last sentense ...maybe you've got a scoop!?

He's not in the Observado-data-base yet -> maybe you're the first (scoop = primeur). But I'm not sure because of the location where you found him (according to the discription he's only to be found in disturbed habitats...). I think you should ask help from herpeto-admin Bobby Bok: http://www.herpet.mysites.nl/

@ Falco:
The frog seems to be a Limnonectes species (maybe kuhlii). The problem with these species is that they seem to belong to a complex in which there could be more species identified in the near future. All my books(Inger) of that area are useless because in the past decade or so there have been many new discoveries.
Greetings,
Micha

Limnonectes Kuhlii could be because of the habitatdiscription and the rangemap but he does not have that typical bright spinal stripe. Maybe a new or unkown specie of Limnonectes?

Micha/Ies,

What about this one? It's got that bright spinal stripe (but occurs in tropical lowland and Park Kinabalu is Cloudforest). At what altitude did you find it Ies?
(maybe you can contact Alexander Haas, he seems to be up to date about the Bornean Herpetefauna, at the bottom right: http://frogsofborneo.org/Imagestext/imagestext.html ).

I have sent an email to mr. Haas. If you are interested I can inform you about the answer.

I'm really starting to be enthusiastic about frogs! I will post another interesting one within a few days or weeks.
