Homepage - Transect Monitoring:

1. Is there a reason to choose the American spelling "traveled" instead of the English "travelled"?  :right:
2. Third last paragraph: how much research do you have to make to discover a species if it is present :wrong:
                                   how much research do you have to DO to discover IF A SPECIES is present  :right: DT: changed accordingly (this screen has a cache of one day, so the changes I made yesterday are visible only now)

There are a couple of other minor issues - do you want the text in perfect English or is "bruikbaar" okay?

This is my provisional version of the Transect Monitoring text - I would need to see the original Dutch text before I was completely happy about it.

Some small possible improvements that I've found, with varying degrees of necessity.

On the home page, under Today: xxx Number of Species -> xxx Recorded species  :right: but cached, so check tomorrow
On the "new observation" page, under Activity: Longterm stay -> Long-term stay  :right:
Under Settings : "Minimum 5 characters, no spaces. Starting with a character" -> "Minimum 5 characters, no spaces. Starting with a letter"  :right:
Same page: "real name" (should that be changed to "name"?): "First name surname or initials surname example(s) P. Brown, David Smitd" -> First name, surname, surname with initials. For example: P. Brown, David Smith"  :-X can't change this myself will ask
Same page: "show time along my observation" -> "Display time of my observations" (or something)  :right:
Under the header "My data": "Check lists" -> "checklists"  :right:

PS. The "Help" section is under construction? I can write a first draft, if you want?

CiteerExplaining the different staff functions
validator = Person can validate all observations of the assigned species group
mapper = Person can modify and submit polygones of area's
expert = Can create and alter species texts
taxonomist = Can create and modify species
translator = Can translate texts and species names.
committee = Person is a member of an external committe

area's -> areas  :right:
committe -> committee  :right:

Also, it'd be better to start every sentence in the same manner. There's a dot where there isn't supposed to be one. All corrections applied: :right:

what about this: (in comment section)

"the reciever speaks a different language: English"

wouldn't  "observer" be better ?

Het zou hoe dan ook 'receiver' moeten zijn.

At: https://observation.org/ranks_v2.php

If you do not see your own numbers or are they outdated? Start your lifelist

=>

If you own ranking is not shown in the ranking or is the total of your total outdated? Click here to start or update your ranking.

The same link should be added to the other two ranking links for consistency.

@Lukas - polygons doesn't have an "e".  :right:

@Erik - if your own ranking is not shown or the total (all species groups)is outdated, click here to start or update your ranking.

@James Even better :duim:

Great initiative.

To start with the description of this very board ('Observation.org'):

CiteerSightings in the world (outside Belgium & The Netherlands) can be introduced in Observado.org. You can use your account of waarneming.nl, waarnemingen.be

This text should be either removed or replaced by one that actually describes what this board is about.

Thanks

Please propose any changes - I feel unconfortable with 'Sightings' but hey, not native speaker  ;)

Sightings in any country outside Belgium and the Netherlands can be recorded on Observado.org. You can use your Waarneming account (Waarneming.nl or Waarneming.be).

But what I was also trying to say was that that line should describe what that forum board is about, not about how to use Observation.org. (Cf rest of board descriptions)

I checked E-bird. They use both "observation" and "sighting". Birdguides uses sighting.

So no problem, although I prefer observation,

This may sound a bit pedantic....

A sighting is seeing something when you are outside, a record is when you record the sighting (for instance on Waarneming). They are often used loosely as synonyms. Have a look at the text under Casual Records, particularly the last sentence -

https://www.bto.org/volunteer-surveys/birdtrack/taking-part/recording-your-sightings

I would avoid observation.

While trying to add an observation of a mollusc I ran into the following flaws:
Under Appearance: cuttle-fish -> cuttlefish
Under Method: "trush smithy" -> "thrush smithy"
"in relation with": There's a that's empty. Suggestion: "If you found the species in a symbiotic relationship with another species, enter it here"
At the after "method": "... determinate ..." -> "... identify ..."
When hovering the cursor over the symbol in the map: "Find mij location" -> "find/use my location"
after "until": "If you want to hide this observation ..." -> "If you want to temporarily hide this observation ..." (Not an error, but a suggestion)

CiteerDetails of this observation are hidden by the observer.

This is your own observation. Details are visible for you.

I'd say to you.

I think you are right:

http://www.differencebetween.info/difference-between-comment-and-remark

OK, changing 'remark' into 'comment'.

I would sense that 'Comments' is better than 'Remarks'; but maybe 'Commentary' better still?

If a native speaker can comment on this plz?
