I once saw a male bird (also hybrid shoveler x gadwall) similar to these, but:
- with a bill more like Shoveler's. Its feeding behaviour was similar to shoveler
- with no green on the head, head pattern was reminiscent of female Red-crested Pochard
- the white spot on the end of the flank was very obvious
