Hallo allemaal,

Ben zeer benieuwd ???
Could this be an "intersex" wintertaling?

Jörn or somebody else (in het nederlands) what do you mean by "intersex" ??
A bird that expresses both maile and female characteristics, not that uncommon, at least in ducks.

These "intersexes" would usually be postmenopausal females rather than hermaphrodites, right?
Yes , for many cases I think so.
However, it can also be caused by cysts in the ovaries even with younger ducks- however, i do not know how common that is.
Another possible intersex crecca:

For this one; yes, it might be an intersex.
But about the one shown at top of the page, I rather think it's a Gadwall x Common teal.

Why do you think so, Jan?
The flank pattern is rather odd in the bird at the beginning of this thread (In my experience if 2 ducks hybridize that have a vermiculated flank pattern, this should also occur in the hybrids. this flank pattern often occurs in hybrids even if only one parent species shows it- and here both putative parents would show it)
and I would have expected mainly black undertail coverts in a hybrid Common Teal x Gadwall.
